Sports Betting – How To Wager Your Bets
Sports betting is done through sportsbooks in the United States and through bookies in the United Kingdom. Sports betting follows a few common rules for wagering your bets on sporting events such as football, basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey, and soccer. For more info about where to bet we recommend you to read our sportsbook reviews: Unibet, Bodog and Betsson.

A straight, or single, bet on the winner, based upon the odds, is the simplest wager to make in sports betting. The point spread reflects the points added to the favorite and subtracted from the underdog, allowing you the option of betting on one or the other.
In a point spread, the favorite has to win by more than the points shown and the underdog has to lose by less than the number of points. If the favorite wins by the exact amount of the point spread, the bet is called a push or a tie.
No money is paid and your bet is returned. A point spread can be moved to your advantage by buying points, usually in one-half increments up to three points.
The money line establishes the odds, with no point spread involved, and shows the favorite with a plus sign and the underdog a minus. You wager more on the favorite, but win less, and wager less on the underdog, but win more.
A third type of sportsbetting wager is the total, the combined scores of both teams, including any overtime scoring. Another wager, the over/under bet, is based upon the odds set by the oddsmaker.
The parlay, or accumulator, is a simultaneous bet on several games. A double parlay is called a straight bet and a triple parlay is a double bet. Parlays offer high payoffs, but require more experience in sports betting.
A teaser is similar to a parlay, but allows the option of buying points to move the point spread or odds to your advantage.
In addition, sportsbetting has other types of wagers such as “if bets”, which allow a second wager only if the first selection wins and the betting is open for wagering teasers or parlays on different teams and on different days.
The future bet requires considerable knowledge and experience in sportsbetting, since the odds can change dramatically from the time you placed your original wager. However, if you know the game and the players, a future bet pays extremely well.
Other sportsbetting options, or exotic bets, such as propositions, depend upon the sportsbook or bookie who determines the odds and conditions for winning.
