Prop Betting

Prop bets or exotics are wagers placed on an outcome that doesn't have a direct affect on the score of the game. Some common prop bets are the over/under on a specific player's points, total yards by a player in football, and completions by a quarterback.

Sportsbook

An example of a football prop bet would be the completions Ben Roethlisberger has for one game. Let's say Ben's over/under for total completions for the game is 15. As a bettor, you can bet that he will have more or less than 15 completions. Prop bets usually have varying juice based on the amount of action the sportsbook is holding on each prop.

For prop bets that are focused on one player. Most sportsbooks require that the player enters the game for the wager to be valid.

For large events such as the Superbowl, the amount and types of prop bets are insane. You can bet on the coin toss, whether or not someone will streak, even which company had the best commercial.

Prop bets are a great way for bettors to gain a big edge on the house. Most sportsbooks do not invest as much time into setting the numbers on prop bets as they would on a regular game, so a wise bettor can find some very soft lines.
