College Football Betting

There's no better time in a gambler's life than the opening week of college football. It signifies that the long wait since last January is now over, and it's time for the most exciting sport to begin. For many sports bettors, college football is their bread and butter. The difference in talent in college football between the top and bottom tier teams is usually very significant making it easier to distinguish who's a fraud and who's a contender.

While most gamblers bet all the way through the college football season, there is an increasing amount of players who are taking a break during the middle and focusing on winning during the early and latter parts of the season. One of my best weeks for the past three years, has been the opening week of college football. In the opening week, I usually handicap the games straight up and based on matchups. If you follow what is going on over the summer, you will usually have more knowledge than the linesmakers on the opening weekend.

In the middle of the season, the lines usually become very tight and it gets harder to find value. I'm starting to think that taking a break during this time would be a great move long term for any sports bettor. The sportsbooks make up a good chunk of their winnings during the middle of the season when team's can either be starting their runs, or starting their downward spirals to a losing record.

While the middle is usually not profitable, the end of the season has been very profitable for many sports bettors in the past few years. The last two weeks of games + the college bowl season give bettors the opportunity to see teams that are motivated vs. teams that want their season to end. Motivation plays a huge part in a college football game, so it should be an essential part of your handicapping.

Overall, I feel that it is more profitable to bet during the first two weeks of the season, the last few weeks, and then bowl season. Choosing when to slow down and speed up with your bets, should be something every smart bettor takes into consideration.
