Handicap: Researching a game and then forming your opinion.
Hedge: To make a bet that takes the opposite side of your original bet to reduce your risk.
Hook: A half-point in the spread.
Juice: The vig, which the industry standard is -110 (10cents).
Line: The point spread or odds on a game or event.
Lock: When people say a bet "can not lose".
Middle: When a player bets on a favorite at low odds and then the underdog at higher odds and hopes for the game to land between the two so they win both bets.
Money line: The odds on a team winning a game outright.
Money management: How a bettor manages their bankroll.
Nickel: $500.
Offshore: Sportsbooks that are located outside of the U.S.
Parlay: Betting two or more teams together as one bet. All teams must win to win a parlay.
Pick 'em: A game with no spread.
Prop: Betting on a certain event such as total catches by one player.
Public: The majority of recreational bettors.
Push: When your bet ties.
Round robin: A specialized parlay that uses every combination of a set of teams in a wager. For example, there would be six two-team parlays within a four-team round robin.
